6th GRADE

6th graders study Salvation History. The teens really enjoy reading Biblical stories from which they come to understand that from the beginning of Genesis and throughout the Old Testament the Lord built up his people thorugh a series of covenants. These covenants are made complete and fulfilled in Jesus Christ who is the new and everlasting covenant.

Our objectives include

  • coming to greater understanding that God, our creator, loves us, keeps his promises to us and has revealed this to us in scripture
  • become proficient at finding verses in the Bible and develop greater understanding of its many books and genres
  • understand that our faith is biblically based
  • understand that the Bible is God's word and is always available to us to help us grow closer to God
  • are actively engaged in learning about their faith and encouraged to see faith formation as a lifelong journey.

Along with teacher developed lessons and direct reading of Old Testament Biblical stories we use this excellent video series from Ascension Press.

7th Grade (Not offerred 2020-2021- see options)

In 7th grade we move logically from the covenants covered in 6th grade to a deeper look at the Paschal Mystery, notably how the passion, death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ and the work God the Father sent his Son to accomplish on earth is manifested in the Mass.

Through the study of Christ’s ministry teens grow in self respect and respect for others.

Our objectives include

  • develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for the Mass
  • grow in understanding and love for Jesus Christ.
  • through love of Jesus teens will desire to follow him and thus flourish as the fully developed whole persons God created them to be.
  • Study of Saints (understanding the Communion of Saints/Choosing a Patron Saint in preparation for Confirmation)

Our 7th Grade Curriculumn includes two video series from Ascension Press. Altaration and YDisciple. Below are video clips from these programs:

8th Grade

By 8th grade it is expected that in grades 6 & 7 teens will have come to appreciate God's loving plan to save us and how He accomplished this. They should also have come to an understanding of their own God given dignity and grown in love of Christ. With the strong foundation that the 6th and 7th grade years have built the teens are now ready to explore who it is that God has created them to be and how God might be calling them to be active members of the Catholic Church. This is vital for every Catholic to discern and continue to reflect upon throughout life. It is not a task that one can accomplish without God's assistance and this assistance will be given in greater abundance at Confirmation which is typically received in the spring of the 8th grade year.

In the fall there are two events for all Confirmation candidates (those that attend Catholic and non-Catholic schools): the Kick-off event and the Saints presentation day.

Only those Confirmation candidates who are enrolled in non-Catholic schools meet for classes until we get to January which is when the Confirmation retreat is held for all candidates. After the retreat all candidates meet for sacrament prep classes together.

Confirmation is usually celebrated around late March to mid-April. The actual date of the Sacrament is determined by the Bishop’s office.

The following foundational topics are addressed:

  • Faith in Action (Service commitment)
  • Holy Spirit (gifts and fruits received during Confirmation)
  • Development of a Personal Spiritual Life
  • Development of Moral Thinking and Decision Making
  • Social Justice
  • Role of Confirmed Catholics in the Church
