St. DamienFr. Damien De Veuster was a simple priest who struggled often with his classes in seminary. The order worried that Damien was too uneducated to become a priest although he was not considered unintelligent. He was ordained in 1864 in Hawaii. Fr. Damien succumbed to leprosy on April 15, 1889 a servant of humanity after 16 years of heroically serving those on a leper colony on Molokai, Hawaii. Fr. Damien’s gifts and talents were simple yet practical, and by surrendering them to God, St. Damien’s life is now a powerful example that all can emulate.
