Father Luke Suarez, Pastor of the Church of the Holy Spirit

An Autobiography:

Family has always been very important to me. I am the fifth child of ten children and proud uncle of 45 nieces and nephews (more on the way!). My father was born in Cuba, while my mother is of Irish and German descent. My parents both grew up, just across the Connecticut state line, in New Rochelle, NY. I was born in Michigan City, IN, and lived in Dover, DE, then in Albany, NY. While attending college at Ave Maria University in Naples, FL, I intentionally started discerning the vocation of priesthood. Throughout my discernment, I knew I wanted to be a diocesan priest so that I could be part of a parish family.

Just before graduation from college, Bishop Lori accepted me to study as a seminarian for the Diocese of Bridgeport at Mount St. Mary's Seminary in Emmitsburg MD. Ordained a priest May 14, 2011, I have served as Parochial Vicar at St. Rose of Lima Parish in Newtown (2011-2014), Chaplain at Notre Dame HS in Fairfield (2014-2017), and most recently as Parochial Vicar at St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Trumbull (2017-2019) before being named by Bishop Caggiano as Pastor of the Church of the Holy Spirit (2019-present).

Besides woodworking, baking and eating chocolate, my passion has always been the pursuit of the Truth, as revealed to us by Jesus Christ, and witnessing to the beauty of this Truth through preaching and accompanying others in living lives of faith.

In my ministry as a priest, I consider my most solemn responsibility, the source of my greatest joy, administering the Sacraments of the Church. I have a profound love of the Most Holy Eucharist and devotion to the reverent celebration of the Sacrifice of the Mass. I am committed to being readily available for administering the Sacraments of Healing: the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Anointing of the Sick.

Trusting in God's grace and the care of Our Blessed mother, I look forward being in continued service of this great parish community at the Church of the Holy Spirit.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Father Luke Suarez
