Lenten Concert

Lent invites us to stand at the foot of the Cross — not as spectators, but as disciples.

On Sunday, March 1, at 3:00 p.m., our parish will host a Lenten concert featuring Charles Gounod’s The Seven Words of Our Lord Jesus Christ on the Cross. This sacred work sets to music the final words spoken by Christ before His death — words of forgiveness, mercy, thirst, abandonment, and surrender.

These are not simply phrases from long ago. They are the last breaths of the Savior who gave Himself for us. Each word reveals something of His heart. Each word asks something of ours.

Accompanying the music will be reflections offered by Fr. Richard Cipolla of the Diocese of Bridgeport. Fr. Cipolla is known for his deep love of Scripture and the Church’s liturgical tradition. His reflections will help us receive the suffering of Christ into our hearts and allow His final words to take root in our own lives during this penitential season.

This is not merely a concert, but a form of prayer. In the silence between the words, and in the beauty of the music, we are invited to contemplate the mystery of Christ’s sacrifice and the depth of His love.

No tickets are required — simply come. Whether you attend alone or with family and friends, I hope you will join us as we ask for the grace to receive what Christ offers us from the Cross.

May this Lent draw us closer to Christ crucified and risen.
